Care Guide
Caring for your candles
A little care goes a long way. Follow these simple steps for the cleanest burn, the best scent throw, and the longest life from every Simply Modern Scents candle and wax melt.
Candle Care
Our candles are hand-poured from clean coconut-soy wax with a crackling wood wick. Treat them right and they will reward you with hours of even, fragrant burns.
Let the first burn pool
The first time you light your candle, let it burn until the melted wax reaches the edge of the vessel, usually two to three hours. This prevents tunneling and sets it up for an even burn every time after.
Trim the wood wick
Before each light, trim the wood wick to about 1/4 inch and remove any burnt debris. A trimmed wick gives a cleaner flame, a steadier crackle, and less soot.
Keep burns to four hours
Never burn your candle for more than four hours at a time. Let the wax cool completely and re-trim the wick before relighting.
Know when to stop
Stop burning once about 1/2 inch of wax remains at the bottom. This protects your surfaces and the vessel, which you can clean out and reuse.
Wax Melt Care
Flameless, smoke-free, and simple. Here is how to get the most from your coconut-soy melts.
Use a proper warmer
Break off one or two cubes and place them in an electric or tea-light warmer that is UL-listed and approved for wax melts. Do not add water and never melt on a stovetop.
Refresh when the scent fades
Coconut-soy holds scent beautifully, but every melt has a lifespan. When the fragrance softens, let the wax cool and swap in fresh cubes.
Burn Safely
- Never leave a burning candle or warmer unattended.
- Keep away from drafts, curtains, and anything flammable.
- Keep out of reach of children and pets.
- Always burn on a stable, heat-resistant surface.
- Stop use when only a small amount of wax remains.
A little frosting is normal
Because our wax is natural coconut-soy with no additives or dyes, you may notice slight frosting or an uneven top after the first burn. That is not a flaw, it is a sign of clean, pure wax doing exactly what it should.
