Because it works in short bursts with a pause between each one, even a strong setting only sips a little oil at a time — so a single 8 oz bottle typically lasts months at a gentle everyday setting, and several weeks if you run it hard for long stretches. What actually changes how fast it goes
Four things matter most:
- Run time — how many seconds the diffuser mists per cycle. This is the biggest lever.
- Pause time — the gap between mists. Longer pauses stretch a bottle considerably.
- Hours per day — running all day uses far more than a few hours each evening.
- Room size & airflow — larger or draftier spaces need more output to scent evenly.
How long an 8 oz bottle lasts
For an 8 oz bottle on our SMS1000. “Typical” is a gentle, everyday setting in short intervals; “strong” is a high setting running steadily. A low setting lasts even longer than the typical column. Rough scaling for other sizes: a 2 oz lasts about a quarter as long, a 16 oz about twice, and a 32 oz about four times. How to make a bottle last longer
